Cyber-Physical Systems Symposium Connects International Research and Industry in Aachen

The first Cyber-Physical Systems Symposium (CPS Symposium) will take place at Neues Kurhaus in Aachen on November 3 and 4, 2026. The international professional event will bring together representatives from academia and industry to explore current developments and future perspectives in cyber-physical systems (CPS), industrial artificial intelligence (industrial AI) and intelligent automation. The symposium is hosted by the Chair of Cyber-Physical Systems at RWTH Aachen University with the support of a network of industry partners, including DSA Daten- und Systemtechnik GmbH.

The recently reopened Neues Kurhaus provides the setting for international exchange between research, technology development and industrial application. The program focuses on four key areas. The first covers scalable and resilient architectures for cyber-physical systems as well as industrial networking. Further topics include data-driven diagnostics and the use of product data throughout the entire product lifecycle, as well as modern production and quality assurance systems. The fourth focus area covers industrial AI, robotics and intelligent automation.

Paths Towards a Future-Ready Industry

In modern production and value creation processes, the digital and physical worlds are becoming increasingly interconnected. At the same time, industrial companies are facing growing pressure to transform and remain competitive. Software, data and IT infrastructures are increasingly being integrated with machines, equipment and production processes. Under the guiding theme “Next Generation Industry,” the symposium will examine technological approaches that can strengthen the competitiveness, resilience and long-term viability of industrial systems.
Researchers, industry representatives and decision-makers will address these topics from different perspectives, ranging from current scientific approaches to specific requirements in industrial applications. “For companies, the key is to deploy new technologies in ways that make processes more robust, efficient and flexible,” emphasizes Dr.-Ing. Thomas Huth, Managing Director of DSA Daten- und Systemtechnik GmbH. “The focus areas demonstrate how networking, diagnostics, quality assurance and artificial intelligence can work together to shape the next generation of industrial systems.”

Research Across Disciplinary Boundaries

“Cyber-physical systems combine knowledge and methods from different disciplines. The symposium brings these perspectives together and creates a forum for discussing concrete challenges in the development of complex systems,” explains Prof. Jian-Jia Chen, Chair of Cyber-Physical Systems at RWTH Aachen University. “New approaches to advancing cyber-physical systems are emerging particularly at the interfaces between computer science with the support of artificial intelligence (the cyber part) and many disciplines, such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, medical engineering, etc. (the physical part).”
The Chair of Cyber-Physical Systems at RWTH Aachen University was established with the support of DSA Daten- und Systemtechnik GmbH. Its research focuses on the interaction between physical and digital systems, with key areas including design automation, hardware/software co-design, resource-aware machine learning, and energy and performance optimization.

The Cyber-Physical Systems Symposium 2026 will take place on November 3 and 4, 2026, at the Neues Kurhaus, Monheimsallee 44, 52062 Aachen, Germany. Further information about the event, program and registration is available at www.cps-symposium.org.
