Guided diagnostics supports efficient vehicle repair

When repairs are needed, troubleshooting is often not that simple due to the extensive interactions of the ECUs in the vehicle. This is because the generated error codes do not necessarily lead to the correct diagnosis. In addition to the data provided by the vehicle, customer observations on the conditions under which the fault have to be taken into account for successful diagnosis, as does the fact that faults in systems that are not capable of diagnosis have to be considered too. Last but not least, the workshop staff's extensive experience is supposed to be incorporated into the diagnosis process.

The basis for efficient guided diagnostics is provided by DSA authoring tool PRODIS.Authoring, to define maintenance and repair procedures in the first step. PRODIS.Authoring's release management allows the compilation of maintenance and repair procedures into a diagnostic package for branded authorized workshops. The diagnostic package is then executed via the PRODIS.WTS runtime system, which provides step-by-step instructions for error analysis to the workshop staff.

PRODIS.WTS now supports the option to add important information that helped to quickly diagnose faults, such as customer observations, perceptions of the workshop personnel, to the system landscape. In the next step this information is used in PRODIS.Authoring to adapt the diagnostic processes accordingly. This way of knowledge transfer ensures a significant process improvement and a significant time saving in the repair processes.
