DSA is involved in the Center Connected Industry of RWTH Aachen University, in order to intensify cooperation with research and to develop new synergy effects. There we work in close cooperation with other members from research, industry and associations on future-oriented topics within the logistics supply chain.
In the joint research project "Future Logistics - Smart Transport", the DSA expertise in the field of connected vehicles is in demand: Self-driving transport vehicles or rather skids, that transport (e.g. body) parts over a short distance must be able to communicate conditions, environmental and transport goods parameters as well as position data in real time to appropriate systems. Thus, a new level of information transparency of mobile material flows can be achieved.
We are now pleased that we have achieved first working results together with our consortium partners.
The experimental vehicle – in this case an e.Go Kart – was equipped with our telematics and diagnostic unit VCG (Vehicle Connectivity Gateway). The VCG establishes a connection between the kart and – in this case – a Microsoft Azure-based platform. This enables continuous acquisition of telemetry data of the Kart such as engine power, vehicle speed, voltage and GPS position as well as error codes. This data is continuously sent to the platform and stored. Via a web interface, the values can be retrieved and processed. In addition, the Connected Vehicle Monitor enables real-time visualization of the data. Additional sensors (e.g. NFC tags, tire pressure and others) can be integrated if necessary.
Insights into the status and position of the karts or rather vehicles of a fleet are now possible. Comprehensive real-time monitoring of operating data in combination with data analysis and predictive maintenance can create transparency in the value chain. This should be proven in the next project step.
