Diagnostics in the Digital Factory: Connected Vehicles in Production

As leading experts in the development of innovative communication solutions for vehicle electronics, DSA is pioneer and provider of key technologies required for the increasing digitization of the automotive industry. We see ourselves as an innovative and proactive industry expert, reflecting on the real impact and benefits of new technologies, not just buzzwords.

As a member of the Center Connected Industry of the RWTH Aachen University, we have prototypically implemented innovative solutions for tomorrow’s vehicle diagnostics in the local demo factory. And that was worth it, because our team already had the opportunity to present the various demos to major customers from the automotive industry.

Connected Vehicles in Production

Our innovative hardware and software solutions help automotive manufacturers to digitize the entire vehicle configuration and provide new opportunities for dynamic vehicle assembly and electronic commissioning. With the integration of vehicles, workers, machines and parts, we support vehicle manufacturers on their way to a digital factory with more transparency and higher productivity. From the central control tool PRODIS.PlantHUB, the use of wearables to worker guidance to the subsequent data analysis, we offer a new virtual view on all current activities and the status of each vehicle.

We enable the permanent online connection of the vehicles during the entire configuration and diagnostic process. By means of the DSA circulating adapters Lean Diagnostics Edge and Smart Diagnostics Edge, the vehicle is integrated into the existing plant IT. The adapters remain plugged into the vehicle over several production cycles and establish a continuous WLAN communication with the test computer. While the Lean Diagnostics Edge (e.g. the DSA WDI-2X) is connected to the component for sequence execution via WLAN and the sequence execution is running on a related hardware computer at the production line or in the data center on a virtualized tester, the circulation tester Smart Diagnostics Edge (e.g. the DSA smartMDI) independently performs test procedures.
The alternative to circulating adapters is our On-Board Diagnostics Edge, also called virtual ECU. Here, the vehicle’s on-board computer contains the VCI or rather the diagnostic stack. Depending on the performance, the execution of diagnostic scopes on the on-board computer is also possible.
