DSA at the regional First Lego League competition: playful diving into the world of technology

On 22 and 23 February 2025, the regional competition of the First Lego League (FLL) took place at Inda-Gymnasium in Aachen. On the first day, the teams from the Aachen region competed for qualifications, while the regional competition for the west was held on Sunday. The competitions were exciting and the event was full of atmosphere, with encouraging music and professional moderation.
The FLL is committed to promoting the MINT areas and social engagement with its tasks and competitions. Alongside the competitions, companies from the region had the opportunity to present themselves and their work. DSA was part of it with a well-visited stand and offered tech to try out for Lego and tech fans of all ages. The focus was on playful insights into programming and robotics.
In addition to the technical tasks, the competitions also focus on the fundamental values of exploration, innovation, impact – as well as inclusion, teamwork and fun. At this year's regional competition, the pure girls' team “Sponge Bots” from the Inda-Gymnasium achieved an excellent overall ranking. In addition to a great performance in the robot game, they impressed the jury with their team spirit and collaboration in their research project, in which they developed a sensor boat to detect microplastics in water – in line with the official title and general topic of this year's FLL season, ‘Submerged’, under which ‘the depths of the ocean are to be explored with creative thinking’, according to the organisers.
Now we look forward to welcoming potential young engineers to DSA at some point in the future. Either for one of the taster days and workshops we offer for young technology enthusiasts, or perhaps as a result of applying for an apprenticeship at DSA.
