PRODIS.Server with Oracle RAC

The PRODIS.Server is used in manufacturing for central administration, storage and evaluation of vehicle data, result data and parameterisation data. By means of the graphical user interface PRODIS.Control this data can be accessed. Supported database systems are PostgreSQL and Oracle10. The PRODIS.Server usually consists of a coupled pair of servers, so that all stored data can be synchronized between active and passive server. The software version on both servers is also identical so that the passive system can replace the active server in case of failure.

To increase the availabililty of the overall system PRODIS.Server, Oracle RAC (Real Application Cluster) can now be used with Oracle database systems. This allows for the operation of several database instances in one cluster that access the same database. If one node fails, the others will take over its functionality.

In addition to PRODIS.Server A and B two external storage systems that both PRODIS.Servers can access via iSCSI (IP-based SCSI) are required for storage of database data. All components and connections of the system are designed redundantly. Each PRODIS.Server has a double role as application server (PRODIS.Server processes and PRODIS.Control) and database server (Oracle RAC). Both have independent and automatic heartbeat and process monitoring: The application server via heartbeat and automatic hotstandby; the Oracle database server via Oracle clusterware.

By realisation and integration of an Oracle Real Application Cluster in the PRODIS.Server, the overall system PRODIS.Server is perfectly protected from failure. In case of failure all services and functions are available without any operator intervention.
